National and Regional Press - is it for me?
A big plus point for the nationals is that they’re just so well-known. Who hasn’t heard of The Sun or The Times?
Your starting point will be in classified or recruitment advertising and mainly working on the phone, but it’s the perfect starting point for a career anywhere in medialand with good earnings from day one and excellent training.
If you would prefer the security of a 'big company' environment in which to grow, with a clear structure and great training and development, newspapers may be just the home for you.
"I admit I came here as a means to an end: I was saving up to go travelling but I missed the job and luckily my old boss rehired me when I returned. Now six years later, with my own team and wide-ranging responsibilities, I still love it and I wouldn't think about doing anything else... if you thrive on hard work at a fast pace and a good night out to let off steam, I would seriously suggest you give this a try"

There’s a real buzz around a national newspaper sales team which can be hundreds of people strong – so you'll have plenty of colleagues to celebrate and commiserate with and often great social activities as you might expect.
When it comes to regional advertising, again this is a great place to start your career. If you live outside London and don’t fancy life in the smoke, it’s more than likely that you’ll find a regional publisher in your own area.
Regional publishers may not pay quite as highly as the nationals but they also offer very good training to new recruits and there is often more opportunity to escape the office and sell to advertisers face to face.
